The entrance gate to Dachau Concentration Camp outside Munich, Germany. The gate had the slogan " Arbeit Macht Frei", Literally "Work Sets You Free", to calm the new inmates into a safe feeling as they entered the camp. The camp was actually a large clothing factory that supplied the army and SS with uniforms and insignia throughout the war.
The camp opened in 1933 and originally held political dissidents, gypsies, homosexuals, and religious prisioners. Later it became a holding camp for Jews on their way to the many extermination camps. The camp is now a memorial/museum and is a must see for anyone visiting Germany.
