In Alaska if you drive two hours up, and up, you end up at an abandoned Gold Mine that has been converted into a State Park. The mine was worked for about 60 years until right after World War I when it was decided the gold was played out. Many of the buildings are original and/or restored. Most of the ones that we way up near the actual mine are ruins and can only be reached climbing dirt paths, many at a 45 degree angles. Just the fact they were able to mine year round, even during snows of 10 feet or more, is a remarkable achievement. This is a view of the a aparatus that we believe was used to acrry electrical up the mountain to the mine when it was finally wired for power.
