Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: Is buying artwork an investment ?
A: You may be able to have your artwork appreciate but like any other investment it is never certain. The best advice anyone can give you is to first, by artwork that you like. It will hang on your walls for a long time so be sure it stirs your emotions. Trust your own judgment, if you like it don't worry if anyone else approves. Second, try to buy pieces that are not going to be mass produced. If the piece is original or a limit series the chances of a gain in value is much higher. Thirdly, try to diversify your collection. Collect some originals, some limited edition prints, and also limited edition, or original, photographs as your budget allows. Many people make the mistake of buying all one type because a particular photographer or artist is their favorite. While this may please your senses temporarily, the potential is either great or none, completely dependent upon the artist or photographer's gain in fame or value.
Q: How is this limited edition artwork different from other sites ?
A: All the art we present is either original or limited edition. The limited edition prints are normally less than 300 pieces. The photographs are usually under 25 pieces - some only 5. What this means is after that number of copies is sold the media used to produce the prints is destroyed. Editions are marked with 25/300 or 2/10 - the first number tells you the number of the piece and the second the total edition available. Many other sites produce their editions by the thousands, and then offset printed using the four subtractive colors - yellow, cyan, magenta, black. These are done on large offset presses that print over 10,000 sheets per hour and the resolution is seldom over 175 dots per inch. The ink used is common printing ink which will fade in a few years even when not in sunlight. The paper is wood pulp which yellows over time.
When we produce limited editions they are done on 1200 dots per inch printers that, at best, produce one print in a hour. These printers utilize 12 colors to better reproduce the color and the inks are guaranteed not to fade for 70 years. Our papers are specially produced for this use to not yellow or change shade. You therefore receive a piece of art or photograph that will be enjoyed by you and your children for many years.
Q: Why are the panoramas on the site not available matted and framed ?
A: We try to make your art collecting experience enjoyable; Nevertheless, also as economical as possible. While we could use our sources to frame a panorama which is 4 feet wide or more where that would not be practical is in the shipping expense. UPS or the US Postal Service cannot take such a large package so it would have to be crated and sent on a large truck. This of course would be very expensive for the physical crate besides the actual freight. You would also have a large wooden crate to dispose of after it arrived. By sending the art in a hard sided tube all these problems are eliminated. You receive the beautiful art, and have a choice of frames and mattes at any local framing store.
